A Guide to a Successful Interview – UTAR Interview Workshop

Hosted by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), the main objective of this interview workshop is to help students master the art of interviewing and gain essential tips on going though successful interview sessions.

The 2-hour workshop consists of multiple sessions highlighting important tips on going through the entire interview process, from pre-interview preparation to post-interview add-ons. Jess also shared crucial tips and advice on micro-behaviors and unforeseen situations during interviews.

Event Highlights:

1. Pre-interview Preparation

After a brief introduction of Jess and Job Majestic, the workshop started with a session on pre-interview dos and don’ts. Some of the guidance provided by Jess include:

  1. Important items to prepare before an interview
  2. Company / job related research
  3. Resume personalisation and its impact during the hiring process

2. Important Interview Tips

Next, Jess highlighted several crucial aspects that job applicants must master during a job interview. In this main session, Jess provided a comprehensive guide on:

  1. Common mistakes during an interview that applicants should avoid making
  2. Ways to stand-out and leave positive first impressions
  3. High-quality techniques to answer the hardest interview questions + Examples
  4. Sub-par answers that applicants shouldn’t not be using

3. Post-interview Practices

Jess also shared some of the best post-interview practices that job applicants should implement in order to increase their chances of getting hired. Some of the practices include a post-interview appreciation letter, following up with questions and more.

4. Interview Micro-behaviours 101

In the next session, Jess introduced the concept of micro-behaviours. Based on her extensive knowledge and experience on HR and interviews, Jess shared some of the micro-behaviours that job applicants should or should not portray during a job interview.

5. Sudden Situations & How to Overcome Them

Finally, Jess provided some crucial tips on ways to adapt and overcome sudden situations during interviews. Some of the situations include:

  1. A different interviewer
  2. Weird interview questions
  3. Family planning & relationships

and more.

Closing

The 2-hour workshop concluded on time after an interactive Q&A session and a group photo session. Here’s one of the review provided by a participant:
